A Durban mother lost her life in a tragic accident that occurred in Waterloo on the KZN North Coast on Thursday afternoon. The victim, a 40-year-old woman, was seated in a neighbour’s yard when a car allegedly lost control and ploughed into her, resulting in her untimely demise.
Reacting swiftly to the distress call, members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived at the scene at approximately noon.
Upon their arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the woman lying in the yard, with a silver Toyota Avanza stationary next to her. Paramedics assessed the situation and unfortunately declared her deceased on the scene.
During the investigation, RUSA officers interviewed two brothers who were the occupants of the silver Toyota Avanza.
According to their statements, they were travelling with their vehicle loaded with tables and chairs. As they were driving, a money pouch and a speaker began to slide off the dashboard, causing the driver to reach for the sliding bag of money.
Tragically, in the midst of trying to regain control of the vehicle, the driver lost control and ran over the female victim, who was sitting on a paint bucket in the yard. The impact of the accident resulted in her immediate death.
Thankfully, the woman’s children were at school during the time of the incident, sparing them from witnessing the tragic accident that claimed their mother’s life. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has been informed and will continue their investigation to gather further details surrounding the accident.
