Five Suspects Arrested After Dashcam Footage Captures Eldorado Park E-Hailing Driver Robbery
Gauteng police have arrested five suspects aged between 15 and 21 following the armed robbery of a 20-year-old e-hailing driver in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a 20-year-old e-hailing driver in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, after dashcam footage of the incident circulated on social media.
The suspects, aged between 15 and 21, were arrested following an investigation involving police crime intelligence, detectives and Visible Policing officers.
The incident occurred at approximately 11am on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, in Eldorado Park Extension 7.
Footage of the incident appears to show a female passenger attempting to grab the driver’s cellphone while a male passenger pulls the vehicle’s handbrake from the back seat. The driver is then seen fleeing the vehicle as a man shouts, “Shoot him, shoot him!”
A suspect appears to be holding a firearm and pursuing the driver.
Driver Robbed After Responding To Ride Request
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the victim was driving a white Toyota Etios when he responded to a request to collect a passenger on Maine Street.
“Upon arrival, a female suspect signalled the driver and entered the front passenger seat, instructing him to wait for her brothers,” Nevhuhulwi said.

Two male suspects subsequently entered the vehicle.
“Shortly after the second male entered, one suspect engaged the vehicle’s handbrake while the group forcibly robbed the driver of an undisclosed amount of cash, his driver’s licence, identity document and bank cards.”
Police said a fourth suspect, who was standing outside the vehicle, fired a gunshot during the incident and demanded the driver’s cellphone.
“The suspects subsequently fled the scene without taking the phone,” Nevhuhululwi said.
The driver’s cellphone was therefore not taken, according to the police account, although the suspects allegedly stole cash and personal documents.
Police Operation Leads To Five Arrests
Nevhuhulwi said follow-up investigations, supported by operational information, led to the arrest of five suspects.
The operation involved members of Eldorado Park Crime Intelligence, detectives and Visible Policing officers.

The arrests followed public outrage over the dashcam footage, which appeared to capture the moment the driver was ambushed and forced to escape.
“All suspects are expected to appear before court soon on charges related to armed robbery and firearm offences,” Nevhuhulwi said.
The suspects are aged between 15 and 21. Police have not provided further details about their individual alleged roles in the robbery.
The suspects remain presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
