Mitchells Plain Mom Of Five Dies After Alleged Taxi Push—Family Demands Justice

The family of Analize Adams, a 45-year-old mother of five from Eastridge, Mitchells Plain, is seeking answers after her death following an alleged incident in a local taxi. Adams was reportedly pushed from a taxi on 25 April near the Shoprite Town Centre in Tafelsig and later died in hospital after spending five days in a coma.

Her niece, Melissa Adams, told Daily Voice the family was frustrated by the lack of clarity surrounding the events that led to Analize’s death.

“The incident was on that Friday and she passed away in the hospital on [29 April], but a family friend called us — the doctors at Groote Schuur told us nothing,” said Melissa.

Family Disputes Death Certificate, Calls for Autopsy

Despite the suspicious circumstances, the family says the hospital has not conducted an autopsy. A death certificate seen by Daily Voice listed Adams’ cause of death as “natural causes”, a claim the family strongly disputes.

Melissa explained, “We asked [the hospital] why the cause of death was natural causes, however they did not want to take the body for autopsy despite telling us that they were going to. We waited [three weeks] but they still put it down as natural causes, because they said she was bleeding from her head.”

She also mentioned that CCTV footage from outside the store where the incident occurred could help clarify what happened. “There are CCTV cameras outside the winkel and we want to know how it will be obtained to determine what really happened,” she said.

Investigation Underway as Mitchells Plain Family Plans Farewell

While the family continues to push for answers, police have opened an inquest docket to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adams’ death.

Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana confirmed: “Kindly be advised that the mentioned case number is an inquest docket registered at Woodstock police station for further investigation.”

Adams’ five children, aged between 9 and 21, were able to visit her during her time in the hospital, though she remained in a coma throughout.

Community organisation Spot on Crime and Emergency is currently assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Melissa described the situation as “deurmekaar,” saying they’ve been going back and forth with the hospital while waiting for a formal case to be opened.

The family plans to lay Analize Adams to rest on 20 May, but say they won’t find peace until they get the full truth about what happened that day in the taxi.
