Media Industry Mourns Murdered Journalist Sibusiso Ndlovu And Partner As Suspects Face Court

The African Media and Communicators Forum (AMCF) and the National Press Club have expressed deep sorrow and outrage following the tragic discovery of journalist Sibusiso “Aserie” Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Precious Mdhluli.

Their bodies, found in an advanced state of decomposition in KwaMhlanga on Thursday morning, were positively identified by forensic teams. Authorities confirmed the couple had been murdered and dumped in a field after going missing on February 18.

The brutal deaths of Ndlovu and Mdhluli have sent shock through the media community, which had united in a tireless effort to locate the couple. Despite the growing fears with each passing day, many held onto hope for their safe return.

“I am terribly sad. We held out hope that despite the number of days the couple had been missing, they would still be found alive. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of our brother and sister,” said Elijah Mhlanga, chair of the communicators forum.

Task Team’s Breakthrough Leads to Arrests

The formation of a dedicated task team marked a turning point in the case. With increased resources and renewed urgency, law enforcement officials were able to make a significant breakthrough. Five suspects were arrested in connection with the murders. Three of them appeared in court on Wednesday, beginning what is expected to be a closely followed legal process.

The AMCF and the National Press Club have pledged their continued support for the families of the victims and vowed to attend all court hearings. Their presence underscores the determination of the media sector to seek justice and accountability.

“We are confident in the work of the authorities that they will use all the available resources to bring to book everyone involved in the killing of our colleague and his partner,” said Antoinette Slabbert, acting chair of the National Press Club.

Media Groups Push for Court Access and Transparency

In a bid to ensure transparency in the proceedings, the two organisations have filed a joint media application on behalf of several media houses to gain permission to cover the court case. The application will be heard on Friday, with journalists and press advocates hoping for full access to report on the developments as they unfold.
