Master Chef South Africa officially turned the heat all the way up, securing the Best Cooking Show Award at the recently held Restaurant Awards in Sandton.
Competing against heavyweights from across the globe, our local edition snatched the crown—and rightfully so.
Big Win For Master Chef South Africa
From Kasi Kitchens to Global Gold
While countries like the UK, US, and Australia have long held the spotlight with their versions of Master Chef, it was South Africa’s bold take on storytelling, culture, and flavour that stole the show this time.
Where others served perfection, Mzansi served soul.
Viewers across the world were introduced to indigenous ingredients like sorghum, chakalaka, amadumbe, and more—reimagined with finesse, plated with pride.
And that unique blend of heritage and innovation clearly hit the judges in all the right spots.
Judging Panel Tasted the Vision
The judging panel, featuring top names including celebrity chef Katlego Mlambo, praised the show for its authenticity and the emotional journey behind every plate. They didn’t just see talent—they saw heart.
Katlego himself said the win reflects how far local culinary talent has come. “It’s not just about the food—it’s about the story behind the dish. South Africa brought that to the world stage.”
Bridget Mangwandi Seals the Moment
Accepting the award on behalf of the team was Bridget Mangwandi, the winner of Master Chef South Africa season five.
Speaking to The Citizen, she shared a heartfelt tribute to the show’s impact and the love from fans across Mzansi.
“Master Chef South Africa changed our lives. This award is a reflection of everything we poured into the kitchen. To every single fan who watched, supported, and voted for us — we see you, and we appreciate you beyond words.”
Bridget, who stunned viewers with her creative flair and fierce resilience throughout the season, continues to fly the flag high for local chefs dreaming big. Her journey from home cook to national pride is what this win is all about.
SA didn’t just make it to the table—we’re headlining the whole menu. Let’s eat!
