Malema: “We Knew Bafana Were Arriving At 4am And The Place Would Be Empty”
EFF leader Julius Malema has praised the party’s supporters for turning out in large numbers to welcome back the South African national football team, Bafana Bafana, after their successful run in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Malema acknowledged that the early morning arrival time might have deterred many fans from attending, but the EFF’s intervention ensured a strong showing of support.

The red shirts of the EFF supporters dominated the crowd at OR Tambo International Airport, with estimates suggesting they made up more than 80% of the fans present. Despite the delayed flight and the inconvenient timing, the enthusiasm of the EFF’s supporters was unwavering.
Malema emphasised the importance of showing appreciation for the team’s achievements, particularly after their impressive performance in reaching the semifinals for the first time in 24 years.
He highlighted the significance of the supporters’ dedication, stating that their presence at the airport at 3 am demonstrated their love, commitment, and appreciation for Bafana Bafana.
The EFF leader also criticised the absence of white supporters at the airport, drawing a comparison to the overwhelming support shown for the national rugby team, the Springboks, during their victorious World Cup campaign.
Malema emphasised the need for unity and support across all racial groups, especially in celebrating the achievements of South African sports teams.
