Lunathi Mampofu Gets Real About Being Broke And Homeless After Winning Awards

In a soul-baring interview on Sunday World Engage, the Inimba actress revealed that while her name was being praised all over the socials, her reality was pure survival mode.

“I haven’t given myself time to celebrate because I’m always looking for more, not necessarily accolades, but you are working to earn money at the time.”

Imagine winning big but having zero rands to your name — that’s what Lunathi faced. The actress admitted she was out of work for months when she won the awards:

“I remember when I won those awards; I was out of work for months, and I was broke.”

Lunathi Goes With No Car, No Crib, Just Faith

Lunathi didn’t just lose gigs — she lost everything. Sis had to sell her car, give up her apartment AND house, and put her entire life in storage just to get back to Cape Town with her daughter. Now if that’s not a plot twist worthy of a soapie itself, we don’t know what is!

“I put my belongings in storage just so I could go back home.”

“God shows up when you least expect it.”

Now 38 and thriving, Lunathi is rebuilding her life — not just as an actress, but also as a singer, aspiring fashion designer, and supermom. She credits her faith for helping her navigate single motherhood and staying strong for her daughter.

“God has helped me raise her. I feel like I am reliving my life in my character Zoleka.”

Even when making the tough calls, like raising her daughter to be independent, Lunathi knows it’s all part of the bigger picture: “I have brought up my daughter to be independent, and sometimes it is a selfish decision to take. However, it is important for her to learn to be more understanding of having the life that we have.”
