Judicial Watchdog Calls For Full Investigation Into Complaints Against Judge Mushtak Parker

Judicial watchdog organization Judges Matter has called on the Judicial Conduct Tribunal to launch a comprehensive investigation into two complaints filed against Western Cape Judge Mushtak Parker.

The organization emphasized the need to get to the bottom of the allegations, which include concerns about the judge’s failure to disclose a significant issue with a client’s trust account during his Judicial Service Commission (JSC) interview and application.

Tribunal Set To Hear Closing Arguments

The Judicial Conduct Tribunal, chaired by retired Judge President Bernard Ngoepe, is expected to hear closing arguments on April 29, after the matter was postponed earlier this year.

The Tribunal will decide whether the evidence presented amounts to gross misconduct.

Witness testimonies were concluded in a single day, with 10 witnesses, including current and former judges, testifying on the matter.

Tribunal Urged To Investigate Allegations

Judges Matter insisted that the Tribunal must conduct a thorough and transparent investigation by gathering all relevant evidence, subpoenaing documents, and hearing testimony from additional witnesses if necessary.

The Tribunal is expected to complete its investigation within three months and submit a report to the Judicial Service Commission.

Judge Parker will be entitled to legal representation during the proceedings.
