Grade 7 Learner Passes Away After Falling From School Building

In a heart-wrenching incident, Clair Aucamp, a Grade 7 learner at Laerskool Mayville, has tragically passed away. The young girl succumbed to her injuries on Saturday afternoon after falling from the second floor of her school building on Thursday last week.
Laerskool Mayville expressed its deep sorrow and condolences to Clair’s family in a Facebook post.
The school stated, “It is with broken hearts that we must inform you that Clair has passed away. We want to express our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. We pray for you God’s comfort at this time.”
The school also requested privacy for the family as they process this tragic loss and thanked everyone for their prayers and support.
The Gauteng Department of Education has acknowledged the tragic incident and is providing necessary support. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, confirmed that Clair fell from a second-floor balcony and was airlifted to Milpark Hospital, where she unfortunately passed away.

Mabona added, “We have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident. Our psycho-social support team has been dispatched to the school to offer necessary support to all affected by this unfortunate event.”
The Tshwane North Department of Education has also stepped in to guide parents on how to help their children cope with the trauma following Clair’s death.
The school’s management understands the profound impact this event has on its learners and is committed to providing ongoing support during this challenging time.
