Fire At Kenville Informal Settlement Leaves Pregnant Woman Dead And Hundreds Homeless

A devastating fire broke out in the Kenville informal settlement outside Durban early on Sunday morning, leaving a pregnant woman dead and displacing 300 people.

The fire, which started shortly after midnight, prompted an immediate response from the city’s fire and emergency services unit.

A team of 30 firefighters, equipped with eight fire engines, worked tirelessly to control the blaze. The eThekwini municipality’s communications unit reported that over 100 small homes were completely destroyed, leaving many residents without shelter.

Despite the catastrophic loss, the firefighters and emergency medical teams managed to treat all minor injuries on site.
