Zuluboy Fights For Fair Treatment Amid Umkhokha Unexpected Recasting

Despite several conversations with the production team, HR, and their legal team, an amicable solution was elusive. According to Zuluboy, the offer made to him was nothing short of an insult.

In a recent interview with The Citizen, actor and musician Zuluboy, whose real name is Mxolisi Madjozi, shared his frustration over being recast without warning from the show ‘Umkhokha: The Curse.’

Zuluboy was initially contacted to play the role of Mlungisi and had even flown to Durban, where he stayed in a boutique hotel in La Lucia for seven days.

He was preparing for the role, scripts in hand, when he was blindsided by the recasting decision. ‘They didn’t explain anything to me. There was no communication whatsoever,’ he lamented.

Despite several conversations with the production team, HR, and their legal team, an amicable solution was elusive. According to Zuluboy, the offer made to him was nothing short of an insult.

Feeling disrespected and undervalued, he decided to take legal action. ‘We, as artists in this country, have always been used and abused. No one is bigger than these production houses and no one is bigger than the channel,’ he stated.

Zuluboy’s stand is not just for himself but for all artists in South Africa who feel marginalized and disrespected.

Zuluboy’s legal team is currently in arbitration with Umkhokha’s legal team to determine the next steps. ‘We are now in arbitration with this case. I’m willing to even sell the last thing I have, and if they want to drag it out, let them drag it out.

‘It’s fine, but they need to learn a lesson on how to respect artists, period,’ he declared. The production house, Rhythm World Production, has yet to respond to requests for comment.

The battle for fair treatment in the entertainment industry is far from over, but Zuluboy’s determination is a beacon of hope for many artists seeking respect and justice.
