Singer Lira has set the record straight and debunked rumours that she has joined the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party. In a video circulating on social media, a “lookalike” of the talented artist was mistakenly identified as her.
Lira, who recently commemorated the second anniversary of surviving a stroke, took to her official platform to dismiss any insinuations of her political affiliations.

In a tweet, Lira shared a screenshot of a YouTube video and a tweet claiming her membership with the MK party. The tweet, posted by @mokwala_dimpho, boldly stated, “Lira is officially an MKP member in good standing.” However, Lira promptly responded, stating, “I wish to confirm that I have no affiliation with the MK party. Any information suggesting otherwise is fake news.”
I wish to confirm that I have no affiliation with MK Party. I have not endorsed them or become an MKP member. Any information to the contrary is fake news and I am exploring my legal options about the unlawful use of my image and name. pic.twitter.com/LJAKX2IEf8

Interestingly, the woman featured in the video is not Lira but actress and poet Londiwe Ngcamu. Londiwe bears a striking resemblance to Lira, both in appearance and voice. It seems that the mix-up led to the false assumption of Lira’s involvement with the MK party.

While Lira distances herself from the MK party, another celebrity, former Moja Love presenter Xolani Khumalo, has seemingly shown support for former President Jacob Zuma. Khumalo was spotted in a picture posted on Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla’s account, indicating a possible allegiance to the Zuma family.
In conclusion, Lira has made it clear that she has no connection to the MK party and is considering legal action against the unauthorized use of her image and name. It is essential to verify information before jumping to conclusions, as mistaken identities can easily lead to false rumours and misunderstandings.
