During a conversation on The Upside of Failure with Radio 702 host Relebogile Mabotja, Lira shared her remarkable progress over the past 14 months.

“I get surprised with how much progress I’m making, and today is a good day,” she joyfully expressed.

Lira bravely narrated the events of the day she experienced the stroke. She recalled feeling an uncomfortable sensation in her head that lasted about 15 minutes while at a restaurant in Germany.

Distressed and unable to speak, she managed to return to her hotel, where she realized she couldn’t read or make a call to her partner.

The following day, her manager Lisa sensed something was wrong and promptly arranged for an ambulance to take her to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a stroke.

“Wow. I was shocked. I’m too young to have a stroke. Not me. Not me. Not me. I cried. I cried because how was I going to tell my parents? I was alone,” Lira emotionally recounted.

Though her physical appearance seemed unaffected, she struggled to speak and read when the first responders arrived.

Fortunately, she has since regained her speech and is on the path to recovery. However, she still faces challenges with certain words due to speech impairment caused by the stroke.

Lira’s experience has transformed her perspective on life, emphasizing the importance of valuing each moment.

The stroke has made her prioritize peace and calmness, appreciating life without taking it for granted.

“When you have a stroke, it calms you from the stress of life. When I’m stressed, I can’t speak, so it is important for me to keep calm and peaceful,” she shared.
