The KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Thami Ntuli, has expressed profound shock and sadness over the passing of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the founder of the Crown Gospel Awards.
She tragically passed away on Monday morning at a Durban hospital after battling cancer. Mbokazi-Nkambule was 52 years old. Her death marks a significant loss to the community and the broadcasting industry.
Premier Ntuli emphasized Mbokazi-Nkambule’s impact as a pioneer in the broadcasting field, particularly during her tenure at Ukhozi FM.

“We had every hope that she was going to recover from her illness because Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule was not merely a presenter; she was a beacon of hope and inspiration in the broadcasting industry.
Through her show ‘Eshilo,’ which was broadcast every Sunday morning from 9 am to 12,” he said. “She connected with people on a personal level, making each one feel seen and heard.”
Ntuli highlighted Mbokazi-Nkambule’s dedication to her craft and her unwavering commitment to quality content. Her passion for radio and commitment to providing enriching material made her an irreplaceable part of the community.
“For dedicating her life to uplifting others by spreading messages of hope, faith, and resilience, she deserves to be applauded,” Ntuli remarked.
In recognition of her contributions, Premier Ntuli recommended that the government officially take part in the funeral arrangements, stating that this will be conducted under the guidance of her family.
