Showing Them Flames! Ambitiouz Entertainment Loses Court Appeal Against Blaq Diamond

Controversial record label Ambitiouz Entertainment has faced yet another legal setback. On Friday, the label lost a court appeal against music duo Blaq Diamond. This marks the third court defeat for Ambitiouz Entertainment in their fight to retain the talented duo. The Johannesburg High Court also ordered the label to pay the costs of the court application.

Although the loss is significant, it remains to be seen if Blaq Diamond will be able to publish their music on their YouTube channel going forward. In July, the duo successfully interdicted Ambitiouz Entertainment and YouTube from removing their music from the video-sharing site and other digital platforms.

However, their previous record label appealed the ruling, preventing the group from releasing new music. The appeal judgment read: ‘The application for leave to appeal is dismissed. The applicant is to pay the costs of the application for leave to appeal.’

Blaq Diamond’s lawyer, Jade Naidoo, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating: ‘Congratulations to my client Blaq Diamond for winning against Ambitiouz Entertainment for the third time! Ambitiouz’s leave to appeal is dismissed with costs! Round three in the bag.’

Ambitiouz Entertainment has faced criticism from several former musicians, including Malome Vector, Fifi Cooper, Intaba Yase Dubai, and Blaq Diamond. These artists accused the label of exploitation and frustration after leaving the label. Ambitiouz Entertainment removed their music from streaming sites and claimed copyright of their songs.

According to court documents, Blaq Diamond filed an urgent court application in October last year after Ambitiouz Entertainment removed their hit song ‘Qoma’, featuring Big Zulu, from YouTube, claiming copyright of the song.

In response, Ambitiouz Entertainment boss Kgosi Mahumapelo argued that the musicians breached their agreement with the label. Mahumapelo claimed that Blaq Diamond failed to release the three albums they were contractually obligated to produce. The label had invested time, resources, and capital in launching the duo and expected a return on their investment.

Despite the court ruling in favor of Blaq Diamond, the ongoing legal battles between the duo and Ambitiouz Entertainment continue to pose challenges for the release of their music. Fans eagerly await the resolution of this dispute, hoping that the talented duo can regain control over their creative work.
