Burglary Suspect Assaulted By Public In Parkgate

A 26-year-old burglary suspect sustained serious head injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by members of the public in Parkgate, KwaZulu-Natal, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The man later collapsed in Redcliffe, where he was found and treated by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) before being handed over to authorities.

According to reports, Reaction Officers responded to an emergency call at approximately 01:17 and found the injured man on the side of the road in an area commonly referred to as Sandpit in Redcliffe.

Upon questioning, he confessed to attempting a break-in with an accomplice in Parkgate.

Suspect Claims Assault

The suspect told RUSA members that he and a friend were in the process of breaking into a home when they were confronted by a group of individuals.

His accomplice reportedly fled the scene, leaving him behind to face the angry group.

The man said he was assaulted but managed to escape, eventually making his way to Redcliffe, where he collapsed.

The suspect, who is from Ndwedwe, was unable to provide the exact location of the house they had targeted.

The motive for the attempted burglary and the identity of his accomplice remain under investigation.

Verulam SAPS Launches Criminal Investigation

The injured man was handed over to Verulam South African Police Service (SAPS) officers for further investigation into the attempted housebreaking.

Authorities have not confirmed whether any charges have been laid at this stage, and no arrests have been made in connection with the assault.
