Media personality Minnie Dlamini has recently come under fire following her comments on the South African election results.
As the country entered its third day of vote counting, Dlamini took to social media to share her thoughts, which many found controversial.

With over 99% of the national votes tallied, the African National Congress (ANC) has fallen short of a majority, receiving only 39.79% of the vote. Consequently, the ANC will need to form coalitions to govern effectively.
Dlamini’s description of the elections as “entertaining” and her speculation about potential coalitions, including her use of the term “coalate,” drew significant criticism.
“Will the ANC coalate with MK or EFF? Will Ramaphosa step down? Will he try coalate with the DA? Interesting times…” she posted.

The term “coalate” does not exist in the English language, leading to widespread ridicule and questioning of her choice of words.
Many social media users were quick to criticize Dlamini for her comments and linguistic error. One user remarked, “I’ve looked for the word ‘coalate’ on three different search engines. It doesn’t exist. Lala manje [sleep now] Madlamini.”
Another added, “Same Minnie Dlamini that was making fun of Itumeleng Khune for not being able to spell an English word properly. What is ‘coalate’?” This reference harks back to Dlamini’s previous joke about her ex-boyfriend, Itumeleng Khune, a soccer player who misspelled the word “apologies” in a viral video.

The incident has brought additional scrutiny to Dlamini’s personal life. She was previously in a relationship with Khune from 2011 to 2014 and married TV producer Quinton Jones in 2017.
The couple, who share a son named Netha Makhosini Jones, are currently undergoing a divorce. Meanwhile, Khune moved on to marry Siphelele Makhunga in 2022, with whom he shares two daughters. This backdrop adds another layer to the public’s criticism of Dlamini’s recent comments.
