Former African National Congress (ANC) President Jacob Zuma, who is now the leader of the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party, is set to appear before a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday, 7 May.
This information was revealed in a notice of set-down document issued by the ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC).
According to the notice dated 24 April 2024, Zuma has been charged with two counts. The first count alleges that Zuma contravened the ANC constitution by publicly endorsing the newly formed Umkhonto Wesizwe party on 16 December 2023.
The second count accuses Zuma of appearing on the candidate list for the MK party.
Zuma has the right to be represented by any ANC member in good standing at the hearing.
Earlier this year, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula stated during an ANC meeting that the party would not call Zuma for a disciplinary hearing. Mbalula argued that Zuma had effectively disqualified himself by endorsing the Umkhonto Wesizwe party.
