Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga and her bodyguards fell victim to an armed robbery on Monday morning while travelling on the N3 near Heidelberg.
According to the police, the incident occurred when Chikunga and her protectors stopped to change a tyre that had been punctured by objects deliberately placed on the road.
As the bodyguards were in the process of changing the tyre, they were attacked by a gang. The assailants managed to rob Chikunga and her bodyguards of their firearms and personal belongings. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, treating it as an armed robbery.
