4 illegal firearms, Ammunition, Drugs Confiscated In Major Overnight Operations

In a coordinated show of strength and strategic action, the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) executed a series of successful overnight operations on April 11, 2025, resulting in multiple arrests and the confiscation of illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs in Westbury and Eldorado Park.

During routine foot patrols in Westbury, AGU officers arrested a 31-year-old male in possession of an unlicensed firearm and 15 live rounds of ammunition.

A separate incident on the same patrol led to the arrest of a 26-year-old male found with another unlicensed firearm and two live ammunition.

Targeted Tip-Offs Yield Drugs, More Firearms

Following an anonymous tip-off about drug activity at a residence in Steytler Street, Westbury, AGU officers apprehended a 52-year-old female for possession of 14 suspected mandrax tablets and four halves.

The suspect is expected to face drug possession charges.

In Eldorado Park, intelligence led the AGU to Sneeuberg Street, Extension 2, where they gained consent to search a B-section flat.

A male suspect was arrested with an unlicensed firearm and eight live rounds. In a separate flat at the same location, another male was arrested after officers discovered 20 zip lock bags of suspected khat.

At approximately 2:45 AM, another successful sting at the B-section flats led to the arrest of a male suspect with an unlicensed firearm and 16 live rounds, again based on a community tip-off.

AGU Commander Urges Community Cooperation

Brigadier Maphoto, commander of the Anti-Gang Unit, commended the officers for their swift and precise execution of the operations.

In total, four unlicensed firearms, 41 live rounds of ammunition, and two arrests related to drug possession were recorded.

“These operations send a strong message to those involved in illegal activities. The AGU will continue its work to ensure safer streets and hold offenders accountable,” said Brig Maphoto.

The AGU continues to encourage community members to report suspicious activities, emphasizing that public cooperation is key to crime prevention.

All suspects are set to appear in their respective courts in the coming days.
