32-Year-Old Influential Scientist Stabbed To Death By Partner

On July 11, 2024, the scientific community and South Africa as a whole were shaken by the tragic news of the brutal murder of Dorcas Lekganyane, a 32-year-old scientist recently named among the top 200 young people in South Africa.

Lekganyane was found with multiple stab wounds at her home in Bramley, Johannesburg. According to reports, police responded to a domestic violence incident and discovered Dorcas Lekganyane with several stabbing wounds.

Her partner, who was also at the scene, was allegedly attempting to commit suicide after the murder. He was immediately taken to the hospital and placed under police guard. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that as soon as he is medically able to appear in court, he will be charged with murder.

The loss of Dorcas Lekganyane is not just a tragedy for her family and friends, but also for the broader community she served.

Family spokesperson, Lethabo Lekganyane, expressed the collective grief, stating, “Didi was brutally taken from us in an act of senseless violence, a story we have heard too often and that has become too commonplace in our homes and our society.”
