Friends of Zahara want to throw a party in Johannesburg, the city where she spent a big part of her career. In contrast, her family has decided to host the birthday celebration in Eastern Cape, her hometown.

This has led to some fallout as Zahara’s mother, Nokhaya Mkutukana, expressed her disappointment. She feels that the friends should join the family’s planned event to truly honour Zahara’s memory. “If her friends really cared for her, they would join the family’s celebration,” she remarked.

A Day for the ‘Zahara Army’

On the same day, the loyal fans known as the “Zahara Army” are making their own plans at the Decalabash Hotel in Randfontein. Lisa Gwengxeka, Zahara’s former assistant, shared that Zahara always loved celebrating her birthday, and this year will be no different.

She emphasizes that due to financial constraints, some fans may not be able to travel to Eastern Cape for the family’s event. Hence, they’re planning an intimate gathering in Johannesburg to pay tribute to their favourite singer in true Zahara style.
