Winnie Ntshaba Speaks About Her Vision For The Royalty Soapie Awards

Winnie Ntshaba is on cloud nine, and it’s not just because of the sparkling trophies! The founder of the Royalty Soapie Awards recently shared her excitement with Daily Sun, and it’s contagious.

‘They’re celebrating excellence in the soapie world. I sat and felt like soapies are the most watched shows on TV. I mean we command an audience of 20 million daily. Think about it, but we were not celebrated enough,’ she said.

Winnie emphasized the importance of recognizing not just the stars but also the behind-the-scenes heroes who make soap operas so captivating. ‘There are people who put in so much work, especially the crew and those who work behind the scenes.

So, I thought, let’s celebrate them as well, so that they are motivated and when someone gives you a pat on the back you get motivated to do more,’ she explained. And who doesn’t like a good pat on the back?

Speaking about her long-term vision, Winnie Ntshaba revealed, ‘It’s been my wish to give people money as well, not only trophies.’ Alas, this dream will have to wait a bit longer.

‘We’re hoping brands, corporates, and the department of sport, arts, and culture will give us funding,’ she added. As they say, good things come to those who wait (and hustle for sponsors).

The awards ceremony is set for 24 August at the Heartfield Arena, Pretoria. ‘Nominees are happening on 24 July, and it’s going to be exciting. We’re growing and each year we try to take it a notch higher.

We want to also celebrate 30 years of democracy,’ Winnie shared. So, grab your popcorn and get ready for a night of glitz, glam, and a dash of democracy!
