VW Driver Arrested For Clocking 199km/h On N4

On Tuesday evening, a 40-year-old man was arrested by the Mpumalanga Liaison Traffic Intervention Unit for excessive speeding on the N4 Schoemankloof Road.

The driver of a VW Golf 5 was caught racing at a dangerous speed of 199km/h in a 100km/h zone. The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the traffic authorities to curb reckless driving and ensure road safety.

Following his arrest, the driver was taken to the Ngodwana Police Station, where he was charged with reckless and negligent driving.

Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson Moeti Mmusi confirmed that the driver was granted bail of R2,000 and will soon appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate Court. This legal action underscores the seriousness of traffic violations and the stringent measures in place to address them.

Jackie Macie, MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, commended the traffic officers for their diligence.

Macie stated, “We must not hesitate to punish motorists who think they can drive as they please while putting the lives of other people in danger. We believe that the arrest will send a strong message to those who disregard the rules of the road and also disobey law enforcement officers.”
