Thohoyandou Police Apprehend Two Foreign Nationals For Possession Of Stolen Vehicle

On Friday, October 25, 2024, the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) in Thohoyandou made a significant apprehension, detaining two foreign national male suspects aged 28 and 47.

They were found in possession of a presumed stolen motor vehicle, a white Nissan NP200 with Gauteng registration. The suspects were reported to have requested clearance to proceed to Zimbabwe, raising suspicions among the VCIU members.

Investigation Details

A vigilant member of the VCIU, while on duty, inspected the vehicle and found noticeable grind marks, which prompted further investigation. Running the vehicle’s details through the police system revealed that it had been reported stolen from the Florida policing area in Gauteng province in July 2024.

Upon questioning, the suspects struggled to provide a credible account of the vehicle’s acquisition, claiming it belonged to their brother in Gauteng.

Response from Authorities

Following their arrest, the suspects were detained at the Thohoyandou police station. Lieutenant General Themba Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, commended the VCIU members for their diligence and commitment to combating vehicle crime.

The duo is scheduled to appear before the Thohoyandou magistrate’s court on Monday, October 28, 2024, facing charges of possession of a presumed stolen motor vehicle. Police investigations in relation to this case are ongoing.
