Injured Cash In Transit Robbery Suspect Arrested In Hospital

Fast forward to 05 November 2023, the Musina-based Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation and Vhembe Trio Task Team received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the cash-in-transit robbery suspect.

A 33-year-old suspected cash-in-transit robbery suspect is currently under police guard following his arrest on 09 November 2023.

The arrest comes after a harrowing incident that took place on 15 March 2019 at Mvusuludzo Mall in Thohoyandou, where a G4S Cash Solutions security guard was attacked by armed men while collecting money from various shops.

According to reports, the security guard had just finished his rounds when he was accosted by three armed individuals who opened fire on him.

In an act of self-defense, the security guard returned fire. Unfortunately, the suspects managed to steal money from the guard, who was left seriously injured. In the midst of the chaos, three innocent bystanders were also injured.

Fast forward to 05 November 2023, the Musina-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation and Vhembe Trio Task Team received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the cash-in-transit robbery suspect.

It was discovered that the suspect had been admitted to Tshilidzini Hospital after being involved in a vehicle accident. However, when the team arrived at the hospital, the suspect was nowhere to be found. It was alleged that his family members had moved him to another private hospital.

Undeterred, the investigation continued, eventually leading the team to the Gauteng Province, where the suspect was located in one of the hospitals. Despite suffering from injuries sustained in the accident, the suspect was placed under arrest.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon, where he will face charges of robbery and four counts of attempted murder.

Major General Gopz Govender, the Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province, expressed his satisfaction with the arrest and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the cash-in-transit robbery.
