Tembisa Woman, 23, Shot Dead On Way To Work As Police Probe Suspected Robbery

A 23-year-old woman has been shot dead in Tembisa while reportedly travelling to work on Monday morning. The woman was attacked on Mapungubwe Street at approximately 5.45am on 28 September 2026, with police investigating the killing as a murder and suspected robbery.

According to police, the woman’s belongings were taken during the shooting. No arrests have been made, and investigators are following up on leads to identify those responsible.

Tembisa Woman Shot Dead During Alleged Robbery

The Tembisa woman was reportedly on her way to work when she was confronted and shot during what police believe may have been a robbery. Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili confirmed that the woman died at the scene. Her belongings were allegedly taken during the incident.

“The deceased has been identified; however, her family is yet to be formally notified. Preliminary investigations have not established any link between this incident and the recent cases involving the bodies of women found in Ekurhuleni.

“No one has been arrested yet, and the police are following up on leads,” Muridili said.

Police have also stressed that there is currently no established connection between Monday’s murder and the recent cases involving women whose bodies have been discovered across Ekurhuleni. Investigators have not disclosed what belongings were taken or provided further details about the circumstances immediately preceding the shooting.

Tembisa Murder: Police Appeal For Information

The Tembisa murder investigation is continuing as detectives work to identify the suspect or suspects involved. Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information that could assist the investigation to contact authorities.

Tembisa Cemetery Murder Suspect Arrested Days Earlier

The latest Tembisa murder comes days after police arrested a suspect following the discovery of a woman’s body near Mooifontein Cemetery on Saturday, 26 September 2026. The arrest took place in Tzaneen, Limpopo, after investigators traced the suspect to the area.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane praised the coordinated work involving Crime Intelligence, Tembisa South detectives, the Investigative Psychology Unit and Bolobedu police. The suspect was arrested later on Saturday after the body was discovered.

The Mooifontein case contributed to the number of female bodies discovered in Ekurhuleni in recent months. Police have said they will continue investigating the broader cases reported in areas including Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, KwaThema and Dawn Park, while pursuing those responsible for gender-based violence and femicide.
