‘Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II’ To Use Blizzard’s Controversial SMS Protect System

The system has been criticized in part because "certain pre-paid" numbers could not be used with SMS Protect. Prior to Friday, players with service from mobile providers such as Cricket Wireless were unable to play the game.

After a rocky launch that saw a DDoS attack prevent many people from playing Overwatch 2 on its release day, Blizzard announced that the requirement would be reduced.

Whereas the studio previously stated that all players would be required to link a phone number to their Battle.net account, that requirement now only applies to new Overwatch players.

The system has been criticized in part because “certain pre-paid” numbers could not be used with SMS Protect. Prior to Friday, players with service from mobile providers such as Cricket Wireless were unable to play the game.
