According to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, a group of criminals accosted and robbed the teachers of their personal belongings.

In addition to stealing items such as cellphones, cash, and clothing, the perpetrators forced the teachers to transfer money from their accounts under duress. The department’s spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi, expressed deep concern over the incident and reiterated the department’s commitment to the safety and security of educators and learners.

KZN Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka has stated that the department will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available.

Hlomuka strongly condemned these criminal acts, highlighting that educators, who are dedicated to shaping ideal citizens, are being unfairly targeted. The department is actively working with law enforcement authorities to ensure those responsible for this atrocity are brought to justice.

The KZN Department of Education has pledged to provide the necessary support to the affected educators and school community during this difficult time. Measures are being instituted to enhance policing at Mukelani Primary School and other schools in the region to prevent further incidents.
