Suspects In Foiled Khayelitsha CIT Heist To Appear In Court

In a dramatic turn of events, five suspects were arrested in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats following a confrontation with police. These individuals are expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court this morning.

They were apprehended after a shootout that ensued as police thwarted a cash-in-transit heist on Monday night.

The suspects are facing multiple serious charges, including the alleged illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of explosives, and attempted murder.

It is reported that eight other suspects were shot dead when they opened fire on the police. Law enforcement officials managed to seize a significant arsenal of weapons, including eleven rifles, two pistols, and three explosive charges.

Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa confirmed the seizure of the weapons, emphasizing the successful interception of the crime.

Additionally, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu lauded the officers for their swift action, stating that such proactive measures are essential for reducing crime.

Mchunu specifically highlighted the importance of intelligence-led operations in preventing attacks on businesses and intercepting criminal activities.
