The United States women’s soccer team returned to the pitch in impressive fashion, securing a convincing 3-0 win against Banyana Banyana in their first game since the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Lynn Williams emerged as the star of the match, scoring two goals within a blistering first-half goal blitz, while Trinity Rodman added another to seal the victory.

The friendly match, held at Cincinnati’s TQP Stadium, marked the US women’s first game since their disappointing exit from the World Cup in the last 16 stage. The team’s early elimination from the prestigious tournament led to the resignation of coach Vlatko Andonovski, leaving Twila Kilgore in charge for this encounter.

The opening goal came in the 32nd minute when Lynn Williams capitalized on a corner from the left. Williams found the back of the net once again in the 41st minute, extending the US team’s lead to 3-0. Banyana Banyana’s defence struggled to deal with another American set-piece, allowing Williams to tap the ball in from a few yards out. It was a dominant performance by the US women, showcasing their attacking prowess and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

In addition to the victory, the match also served as a formal farewell to US veteran midfielder Julie Ertz. The midfielder, who has represented her country 123 times, announced her retirement from international soccer. Ertz, a key figure in the US team’s World Cup triumphs in 2015 and 2019, started the game as captain and received a standing ovation when she was substituted in the 35th minute.
