Playing without seven of their regular players, Mamelodi Sundowns struggled to find their rhythm in a 1-1 draw against 10-man Orlando Pirates. Head coach Rhulani Mokwena was left unimpressed by his team’s display at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
Mokwena expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s personality and performance. He highlighted the lack of passes, intensity, and aggression in the duels as areas of concern. Despite addressing these issues during halftime, the team’s overall performance fell short of expectations.

The match was marred by ill-tempered moments, with both sets of players constantly at each other’s throats. Miguel Timm’s second bookable offence led to his sending-off in the second half, further adding to the heated atmosphere.
Mokwena emphasised that the game lacked quality, stating that all three teams on the field, including his own, were below par. As a coach, he took accountability for his team’s performance and expressed his disappointment with the overall quality of the match.
The absence of Aubrey Modiba, Mothobi Mvala, Grant Kekana, Khuliso Mudau, Teboho Mokoena, Thema Zwane, and Thapelo Maseko, who were returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, contributed to the team’s challenges.
