Sekhukhune United’s right back and winger, Shaun Mogaila, has handed himself over to the police following a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a nine-year-old girl and serious injuries to a thirteen-year-old boy.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at approximately 7:30 am on the Andrew Mapheto Road in Thembisa.

Details of Mogaila Accident
Mogaila’s vehicle reportedly collided with a Hyundai i10 that was transporting the young victims to school. The mother, who was driving, witnessed the devastating crash that led to her daughter’s untimely death. Police spokesperson Thabiso Makgato confirmed that upon impact, Mogaila fled the scene, sparking a considerable public outcry.
Discovery of Alleged Substances
At the scene of the accident, investigators discovered troubling evidence in Mogaila’s BMW. Four bottles of Don Julio tequila, along with a substance believed to be cocaine and marijuana edibles, were recovered.

Authorities have since opened a case for culpable homicide, alongside charges for reckless and negligent driving.
Mogaila, who had recently returned to the local soccer scene after transferring from Royal AM during the winter transfer window, is now facing grave legal challenges. As the community processes the tragedy, the footballer is expected to make a court appearance in the coming days as investigations continue.
