The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has taken action against Moroka Swallows for their actions that brought the league into disrepute.
Last month, the club made headlines when they failed to fulfill their DStv Premiership matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows. This was due to a disagreement between the club’s management and players regarding unpaid December salaries.

As a result of their failure to honor the fixtures, Moroka Swallows potentially face severe consequences. The PSL could impose a significant monetary fine, deduct points from the club, or even take the unprecedented step of expelling them from the league. According to the NSL Handbook rules, the points from the two unplayed matches will be awarded to Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.
Confirming the charges, PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu stated, “Moroka Swallows Football Club was charged for misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute as a result of their failure to honor fixtures scheduled for December 27 and 30 respectively.” The club will appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee on January 11 at 11 am.
Swallows’ chairperson, David Mogashoa, acknowledged the charges and accepted the club’s guilt. He stated, “We have noted the letter from the PSL, we accept guilt, and we are not even going to waste their time in this matter.”
Further updates on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings will be provided once the matter is finalized. Until then, there will be no additional commentary on this issue, as per the usual protocol.
Moroka Swallows’ failure to fulfill their fixtures has not only resulted in potential penalties for the club but has also caused disappointment among fans and raised concerns about the financial stability of the team. The PSL’s action serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the integrity and professionalism of the league.
