South African cricketer Heinrich Klaasen has announced his retirement from Test cricket after playing four matches for the Proteas.
The decision comes as the selectors have chosen to back Kyle Verreynne as the wicketkeeper, with Quinton de Kock previously holding the position. Despite his impressive first-class record, Klaasen has struggled to secure a permanent batting spot in the team.

In a statement released on Monday, the 32-year-old middle-order batter expressed the difficulty of his decision.
He mentioned that Test cricket is his favourite format of the game and that the battles he faced on and off the field have shaped him into the cricketer he is today. Klaasen expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent his country and referred to his Test cap as the most precious cap he has ever received.
While retiring from red-ball cricket, Klaasen will continue to be available for selection in white-ball cricket. His next challenge awaits as he prepares to help Durban’s Super Giants make an impression in the upcoming SA20 tournament, which is set to commence on Wednesday.

It is worth noting that Klaasen is not the only South African player to retire from Test cricket in recent times. Quinton de Kock and Dean Elgar have also made the decision to step away from the longest format of the game in the past year.
Heinrich Klaasen’s retirement marks the end of his Test career, but his contributions to South African cricket will not be forgotten. As he embarks on a new chapter in his cricketing journey, we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.
