Son Allegedly Sets Mother’s Home Alight After Argument With Girlfriend In Oakford, KZN

A 47-year-old man allegedly set his mother’s container home alight following an argument with his girlfriend in Oakford, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday evening.
The incident happened on 11 August 2026, with residents contacting Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance. No injuries were reported.
Oakford Home Set Alight After Family Argument
The Oakford home fire was reported to the RUSA Operations Centre at approximately 19:08 after residents raised the alarm. Reaction Officers arrived at Oakford Village and met the 66-year-old pensioner who lived in the container dwelling.

The container dwelling was already completely engulfed in flames when RUSA officers arrived. Residents tried to bring the fire under control using water from a nearby JoJo tank, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The blaze destroyed the home. The circumstances leading up to the incident remain the subject of further investigation. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
