Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is taking action in response to a racial incident that occurred that involved a Hoërskool Ben Vorster Grade 9 student.
The incident, which has caused outrage among the majority of South Africans, involved a student named Erhard who used a racial slur towards a renowned YouTuber, Sonwabile, during a live stream on the popular online social feature, Kick.
Social media users wasted no time in tracking down the two teenagers responsible for the racist display. Erhard and a female participant, whose identity remains undisclosed, were caught on camera casually using the derogatory term.
Sonwabile, taken aback by the encounter, tried to maintain his composure and expressed his disappointment at the use of such language.
It is disheartening that in 2023, we are still grappling with incidents of racism. The incident has sparked a significant backlash, and Erhard, realizing the extent of the anger he had provoked, promptly went dark on social media.
Surprisingly, the school itself also chose to limit access to its social media comments, further fueling the controversy.
As of now, Hoërskool Ben Vorster has not released a public statement regarding the incident involving one of its students. Despite attempts to obtain a comment from the Tzaneen-based secondary school, no response was received at the time of publishing this article.
The EFF has taken notice of this racial matter and has decided to intervene. Their involvement aims to address the issue and ensure that appropriate action is taken to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
It is crucial that schools and society as a whole actively work towards fostering an environment of tolerance, respect, and inclusivity.
