Amidst South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor’s security has been enhanced due to threats against her and her family.
South Africa approached the World Court seeking various orders, including the immediate suspension of Israel’s Gaza offensive, cessation of forced displacement, enabling humanitarian access to displaced Palestinians, and preservation of evidence.

In response to these threats, Minister Pandor reached out to Police Minister Bheki Cele to strengthen her security detail. While she did not disclose the source of the threats, she believes they are related to the ICJ case. Notably, her children were mentioned in social media messages, adding to her concerns.
Despite the personal cost and intimidation tactics employed by Israeli agents, Minister Pandor remains resolute in pursuing the ICJ matter.

She emphasised the importance of not being intimidated and highlighted the historical support South Africa received during the apartheid era. She believes it is crucial to continue the moral course and engage with the South African people to ensure they understand the reasons behind their actions.
Addressing concerns of antisemitism, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola dismissed claims that South Africa poses a threat to the Jewish community. He reassured that South Africa is a safe place for Jews, emphasising that there is no harm or threat based on their creed, sex, or religion.
