Rise Mzansi, a new political party in South Africa, has recently announced that it has received over R16.7 million in funding since its formation last year.

The majority of these funds were contributed by Rebecca Oppenheimer, who has previously supported the Democratic Alliance (DA) and ActionSA. Out of the total amount donated to Rise Mzansi, Oppenheimer has given R15 million.

In addition to Oppenheimer’s contribution, Rise Mzansi received R1 million from Main Street, while InJozi Design and Kairo Communications donated R160,000 and R559,000 respectively, as in-kind contributions.

Rebecca Oppenheimer, the granddaughter of mining magnate Harry Oppenheimer, has been known for her donations to various political parties in recent years. Rise Mzansi’s leader, Songezo Zibi, had previously stated that the party would publicly disclose its donors before the elections.

Makashule Gana, the chief organiser of Rise Mzansi, emphasised that the party does not accept donations from individuals or organisations suspected of involvement in criminal activities, or from those seeking to unduly influence the party’s policies and decision-making processes.
