Ramaphosa Yet To Meet With IEC To Set Date For 2024 Elections

President Ramaphosa emphasized that every eligible citizen has the right to vote for the political party of their choice.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has stated that he has yet to meet with the Electoral Commission (IEC) and provincial representatives to determine the date for the upcoming 2024 general elections in South Africa. These national and provincial elections are expected to be held simultaneously.

Addressing reporters, President Ramaphosa emphasized that this process is part of the established protocol and necessary for ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. He confirmed that discussions with all relevant stakeholders, including the IEC, will take place to finalize the election date.

While the date for the elections remains undetermined, President Ramaphosa highlighted that his current focus is on the ongoing voter registration, which commenced earlier on Saturday. The aim of this registration drive is to encourage more people to participate in the democratic process by registering to vote.

President Ramaphosa emphasized that every eligible citizen has the right to vote for the political party of their choice. However, he expressed confidence in the African National Congress (ANC) securing a victory, not only in Gauteng but across the entire country.

He acknowledged that there are skeptics who doubt the ANC’s chances of success, but he firmly believes that the party will prove them wrong, as it has done in the past.

The ANC has been a dominant political force in South Africa since the end of apartheid, and it has consistently emerged as the ruling party in national elections.

However, in recent years, the party has faced significant challenges and criticism, particularly regarding issues such as corruption and service delivery. Despite these challenges, President Ramaphosa remains optimistic about the ANC’s prospects in the upcoming elections.
