Nelson Mandela’s iconic identity document (ID) book, received in 1993 after his release from prison, is set to be auctioned by his daughter, Makaziwe Mandela.
This announcement comes after a two-year legal battle, with the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) attempting to block the sale of these items, classifying them as heritage objects.
According to the country’s Heritage Act, such items are not permitted to be taken out of the country without the necessary authorization.
The ID book holds immense historical significance as it represents Mandela’s journey towards freedom and the end of apartheid in South Africa.
