Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, has firmly ruled out any coalition with the African National Congress (ANC).
Speaking at the Electoral Commission of South Africa’s (IEC) national results centre, Zuma-Sambudla emphasized that the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, recently fronted by her father, is looking to collaborate with ‘progressive black parties,’ explicitly excluding the ANC, which is currently led by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

When questioned about potential alliances, Zuma-Sambudla indicated that working with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is a ‘possibility,’ though she remained non-committal about forming an alliance with the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
The IFP has already signed a pre-election pact and is part of the Multi-Party Charter (MPC), which includes the Democratic Alliance (DA) and several smaller political parties like ActionSA and the Freedom Front Plus (FF+). The DA and IFP already collaborate in several municipalities within KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
The announcement comes on the back of the MK party’s impressive electoral performance, which Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla described as unsurprising given the party’s strategic efforts.
Former president Jacob Zuma is expected to make the final decision on any potential tie-ups for the MK party. He is scheduled to visit the IEC results centre in the coming days.
