SurgeZirc SA reports that Geordin Hill-Lewis has emerged as the youngest Mayor in Cape Town’s history at age 34 years, while former Springbok prop forward, Eddie Andrews, is the new deputy mayor.
Geordin Hill-Lewis pulled a total vote percentage of 58. 42% during the local polls earlier in November under the umbrella of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
He received a total of 141 votes out of 224 councilors present in the 231 seat council.

Geordin while speaking at his inauguration, noted that his administration is geared towards bringing transformation and all-around reform to the city as well as eradicating poverty.
He said: “We will serve this city with a clear, higher purpose and that purpose can be summed up into one sentence: to restore hope into South Africa by turning Cape Town into living proof that we can roll back poverty, that we can overcome the long shadows of our past.”

Elsewhere, Felicity Purchase was re-elected as the Council Speaker also under the umbrella of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
She said: “It’s a privilege to address you as the Speaker and I appreciate that you have based your trust in me again for the second time, having presided over a number of council meetings during the last months of the previous administration, I fully understand the responsibilities that you and this position bestows on me.”
