The Gauteng police have announced their readiness to ensure a peaceful election period in the province. To achieve this, law enforcement officials will be deployed to provide adequate security throughout the region.
Gauteng Community Safety Head, Nontsikelelo Sisulu, stated that the police will be responsible for escorting the ballots to the more than 2000 voting stations across the province.
In a media briefing held on Thursday morning, Sisulu emphasized the importance of heightened security measures, considering that Gauteng has the highest number of voters in the country.
“Over 27.79 million voters are expected to cast their votes in the upcoming elections, which is the highest number since the dawn of democracy in South Africa,” said Sisulu. She also mentioned that there are 47 warehouses in the province designated for the storage of ballot papers.

Sisulu further explained, “Law enforcement agencies have been tasked with the responsibility of escorting the ballot papers from these warehouses to the voting stations in all district voting areas.”
South Africans will have the opportunity to cast their ballots on May 29th, and with the deployment of law enforcement officials and the implementation of heightened security measures, the Gauteng police are confident in their ability to ensure a peaceful and secure election process in the province.
