EFF Proposes Conditions For Cooperation With ANC Amid Political Dispute

Additionally, the EFF expressed a desire for representation in all clusters of national government, either as ministers or deputies, and leadership roles in legislatures, such as speaker or deputy speakers, and chairpersons of portfolio committees.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have suggested collaborating with the African National Congress (ANC), subject to a set of specific conditions.

This proposal was discussed during a bilateral meeting held at the Inanda Country Club in Johannesburg, focusing on the constitution of South Africa’s 7th democratic administration.

In a detailed letter, EFF Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini emphasized the party’s interest in cooperating with the ANC. However, this cooperation is contingent upon the exclusion of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) from any government partnership.

Dlamini stated that an agreement or statement of intent must reflect key principles informed by the strategic objective of total liberation of the oppressed, as outlined in the Freedom Charter and progressive internationalism.

The EFF also insists that the agreement must include principles of redress and equality as captured in the constitution. The party believes that this agreement should extend to provincial and municipal governments, aiming to address crucial issues of service delivery.

Dlamini clarified that the EFF is open to participating in any executive body, provided the DA and FF Plus are excluded.

The party also supports the principle that the president or premiers have the prerogative to determine the composition of the executive after consulting EFF leadership.

Additionally, the EFF expressed a desire for representation in all clusters of national government, either as ministers or deputies, and leadership roles in legislatures, such as speaker or deputy speakers, and chairpersons of portfolio committees.

The EFF reiterated that their goal is not to pursue cabinet positions for personal gain but to bring meaningful and historic change to the lives of the oppressed and the people of South Africa as a whole.

The EFF urged the ANC to consider their proposal in the interest of the broader liberation of the oppressed.

Dlamini warned of counter-revolutionary imperialist and domestic forces aiming to undermine the ANC and undo the historic gains of the oppressed. The EFF believes that a collective effort is necessary to safeguard these achievements.
