ANC MP Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma To Face Disciplinary Action For Defying Party Line

The African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament and Minister in the presidency, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, will be facing disciplinary action for refusing to tow the party line.

This comes after her absence from the National Assembly last week, where she was expected to vote on the removal of former Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

The ANC chief whip, Pemmy Majodina, has stated that she will be writing a report to the party’s Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, requesting action to be taken against Dlamini-Zuma. The ANC spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, expressed disapproval of Dlamini-Zuma’s defiance but did not disclose the nature of the disciplinary action she would face.

According to Bhengu-Motsiri, the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) will consider various options and assess the gravity of the matter before determining the appropriate action. She further emphasized the importance of discipline across the organization, regardless of one’s history of service.

As a rule of thumb, the ANC expects all its members to honour their obligations when deployed in Parliament or any other organ. Bhengu-Motsiri highlighted that Dlamini-Zuma’s absence was not limited to the crucial matter concerning Mkhwebane but extended to all parliamentary sittings.

This is not the first time Dlamini-Zuma has defied the ANC’s leadership. Previously, she voted in favour of an impeachment process against President Cyril Ramaphosa, an act for which she is still awaiting a hearing.

In response to concerns about potentially losing her seat in the cabinet, Dlamini-Zuma stated that she serves at the President’s discretion. She acknowledged that if he chooses to reshuffle the cabinet, it is within his democratic right, and she would not hold it against him.
