DA Condemns ANC Violence Against Members Holding Rally | See Video

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it condemns the attack on its members while holding a campaign rally in Ekurhuleni over the weekend, SurgeZirc reports.

It was gathered that the attack on DA members was instigated by members of the African National Congress (ANC).

According to a video made available to SurgeZirc, a woman was seen being stripped of her DA vest by some men who tore the vest and also attempted to burn it.

Reacting to the incident, the DA in a statement said the attack by members of the ANC meted on their members was clear desperation on the part of the ANC to maintain power.

“Yesterday, DA activists were manhandled and violently stripped of their t-shirts. The DA regalia was then set on fire by ANC members.

“The political intolerance demonstrated by the ANC shows how desperate they have become to maintain power that they would stoop to threatening our activists.

“No political party has the right to strip a person nor deny their right to freely campaign.

“The DA condemns the violence shown to our activists in ward 57 and challenge the leadership of the ANC to provide leadership in curbing such incidents,” the statement reads.

According to the statement, the DA said it will lodge a complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) against the ANC and request for a sanction.

“It is clear that following 27 years of service delivery failures and rampant corruption the people of Ekurhuleni are rejecting them and now their only solution is to stop the DA from campaigning,” the statement concludes.
