Three people were seriously injured and 26 others sustained minor injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Baden Powell Drive in Cape Town on Monday morning. The collision, involving a bus, a City of Cape Town Law Enforcement bakkie and other vehicles, happened at about 8am on 19 October 2026. Emergency services attended the scene while traffic officers closed parts of the road between Strandfontein and Muizenberg.

Baden Powell Drive Crash Leaves 29 People Injured

The Baden Powell Drive crash involved four vehicles, according to Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, including a law enforcement vehicle.

City of Cape Town Traffic Service spokesperson Kevin Jacobs confirmed that a bus and a Law Enforcement bakkie were among the vehicles involved. Traffic officers assisted with road closures as emergency personnel treated those injured.

Twigg said the injured drivers of the law enforcement vehicle and another vehicle were transported to a medical facility for treatment. The City confirmed that three people sustained serious injuries, while 26 suffered minor injuries. Emergency services worked at the scene as authorities responded to the incident.

Baden Powell Drive Accident Investigated By Muizenberg Police

The Baden Powell Drive accident has prompted Muizenberg police to open a case of reckless and negligent driving. Twigg said investigators were working to establish the circumstances that led to the collision. No arrests have been made.

“Muizenberg police registered a reckless and negligent driving case for investigation following the accident. 19 October 2026, at about 8.00am, on Baden Powell Drive, between Strandfontein and Muizenberg, involving four vehicles, including a law enforcement vehicle.”

Twigg said the investigation remained ongoing as police sought information about the crash. He appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that could assist detectives to come forward. Baden Powell Drive Road Closure Prompts Police Appeal

The Baden Powell Drive road closure affected traffic between Strandfontein and Muizenberg as officers managed the scene. Jacobs confirmed that the City’s Traffic Service attended the early-morning collision near Sunrise Circle. He referred further enquiries about the crash to SAPS.

“The City’s Traffic Service confirms the early morning accident on Baden Powell Drive, between Strandfontein and Sunrise Circle.”

“Four vehicles were involved, including a bus, a Law Enforcement bakkie and three other vehicles,” Jacobs said.
