According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, some officers sustained injuries during the ambush and had to be taken to hospitals for treatment.

Although the suspects initially evaded arrest, 13 foreign nationals were apprehended on the following Tuesday.

These suspects, aged between 20 and 42 years, were arrested in Unit F, Mankweng, and are facing charges of attempted murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH). They are scheduled to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the incident. Addressing the severity of the matter, Hadebe stated, “We will not tolerate such brazen acts of violence against our police officers. The suspects will face the full might of the law.”

The suspect resisted arrest, and a large group of men allegedly assaulted the officers and destroyed police property. Police fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd, leading to the arrest of three suspects for public violence and another four for malicious damage to property.
