Pitso Mosimane Cuts Bafana Bafana Preliminary Squad To 30

Pitso Mosimane has cut his Bafana Bafana preliminary squad from 35 to 30 players as South Africa prepares for a demanding run of international fixtures.

The reduced squad will form the core of the team’s preparations ahead of a crucial home clash against Guinea at Orlando Stadium on 26 September.

South Africa will then travel to Cairo for an away qualifier against Eritrea on 30 September before finishing the international window with a friendly against Egypt on 4 October.

Pitso Mosimane Narrows Bafana Bafana Squad

The latest Bafana Bafana selection includes a mix of established internationals and players competing for places across the squad.

Ronwen Williams, Veli Mothwa and Ricardo Goss are the three goalkeepers named, while the defensive group includes Khuliso Mudau, Thapelo Morena, Siyabonga Ngezana, Grant Kekana, Rushine De Reuck, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Aubrey Modiba and Innocent Maela.

The midfield options feature Sphephelo Sithole, Teboho Mokoena, Njabulo Blom, Goodman Mosele, Thabang Monare, Themba Zwane, Pule Mmodi, Mihlali Mayambela, Percy Tau and Monnapule Saleng.

Bafana Bafana Face Busy International Window

The first major test for Mosimane’s squad comes at Orlando Stadium on 26 September when South Africa hosts Guinea.

The team will have little time to recover before travelling to Cairo for their 30 September qualifier against Eritrea, adding another demanding fixture to the schedule.

South Africa will remain in Egypt after that match before taking on the hosts in an international friendly on 4 October.

Technical Team Explains 30-Man Selection

The decision to reduce the preliminary squad is aimed at allowing the technical team to concentrate preparations on a smaller group ahead of the upcoming fixtures.

“This preliminary reduction allows us to focus our preparations on the core group needed to deliver strong performances across both competitive qualifiers and the upcoming international friendly.”

The final selection will now come into sharper focus as the team prepares for the Guinea encounter and the two matches that follow.
